It’s fun. It’s healthy. It’s dance and it’s for everyone.

Designed to be all-inclusive, Four Rivers Cultural Center is hosting free dance classes for adults beginning Feb. 16 from 4 to 5 p.m until May 11.

Everyone is invited to participate in RISE. From those who think they don’t have the rhythm to differently abled people, classes are adapted to match all skill sets.

A great form of exercise for children and adults, the Cultural Center believes the joy of dancing should be accessible to every individual regardless of age or ability.

Classes will include impromptu performances by the students, where everyone is encouraged to express themselves and showcase their strengths and abilities. Various dance genres will be explored.

All classes will begin with a general warm-up with a non-ambulant focus on upper body strength and mobility to improve flexibility and joint movement. Following this is lots of fun with the individual, partner and group movement followed by dance combinations and a cool down.

Dance encourages large muscle movement and promotes greater joint mobility. It also improves muscle tone, spatial awareness, and coordination. Most of all, it can be tailored to meet individual needs.

Emotionally, dance stimulates the ‘feel good’ endorphins through the incorporation of music and self-expression. It is a way to mix socially with other people in a fun-filled relaxed environment.

If you’re wondering if this is a good idea for your child, we think you won’t regret giving it a try. There is no cost to participate, but we do ask that you register.

The class instructor will be working to make the course inclusive of all abilities.
