Suzy Bogguss

During the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s, Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane”, “Someday Soon”, “Letting Go”, and “Drive South”. But you can’t peg Suzy that easily. In the midst of her country popularity, she took time off to make a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins. In 2003 she made an album of modern swing music with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel. An album of original music called ‘Sweet Danger’ in 2007 landed her at number 4 on the jazz charts. Her folk music roots show through in her frequent appearances on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion, in the Grammy she earned for her work on Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster, and in her critically acclaimed album and book project from 2011, American Folk Songbook. In 2014 she released Lucky, a collection of songs written by Merle Haggard and interpreted through Suzy’s crystal vocals from the female point of view. Her latest offering, Aces Redux, is a re-recording of her platinum selling album Aces produced by Suzy with fresh arrangements and her signature sparkling vocals. So yes, you can call her a country singer if you want, but really that’s just the beginning.

GRAMMY Winner Suzy Bogguss Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Aces with New Release Aces Redux Features Songs Re-Recorded to Honor

Original Platinum Selling Album.

Every artist has a tipping point in their career where creativity, tenacity, and talent align to produce something truly special, for Suzy Bogguss, that was Aces. Coming off her second album on Capitol Nashville, Aces was coproduced by Bogguss, a rare feat at the time, and released August 27, 1991. It certified Platinum and yielded four memorable Top 10 radio singles: “Outbound Plane,” “Someday Soon,” “Aces,” and “Letting Go.” To celebrate the 25th Anniversary Suzy has rerecorded Aces with some of Nashville’s top players in her latest offering, Aces Redux. “I love to play the radio hits from Aces every night,”

explains Suzy, “but in truth, every single song on that record gets requested at my live shows. So for the first time in a while, I went back and listened to the album start to finish. The songs are timeless, but over the past 25 years I feel like I’ve grown as a vocalist, and when we started recording Aces Redux I got so excited because these songs took on a whole new life that is more representative of who I am and what I do now.”

The original Aces was an inspiration for others as well: “My absolute favorite song and performance on the record is ‘Part of Me.’ Suzy’s interpretation of it never gets old and never fails to move me to tears.” – Brandy Clark

“It was an outstanding work of art that any female artist forging into the landscape at that time considered to be one of those records that set ‘the bar,’ and set it high.” – Terri Clark

Although the Platinum selling album propelled Suzy to new heights, her career did anything but plateau. One of the most diverse female artists in country music, she is a CMA, ACM, and ASCAP Award Winner. She recorded a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins, made an album of modern swing music with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel, and landed on the jazz charts with an original album Sweet Danger.
