Smell loss and distortion are among the prominent symptoms of Covid-19, and the pandemic has left many people struggling with the long-term side effects of these symptoms, specifically, long-term smell loss or distortion. We know that living without your sense of smell can be emotional, difficult, and even dangerous! That is why the Four Rivers Cultural Center is excited to introduce its newest free outreach program on Friday, April 16th: The Smell Training Kit.
This kit is designed to support those who have lost their sense of smell entirely, or who may have regained a portion but only sense distorted smells, for example, everything may smell like onions or gasoline. Recent studies and news articles have reported smell training as a potential form of regaining smell, and this kit is intended to provide-barrier free access to that training. The core of our mission is community, and at FRCC, we want to support our community by providing free programming that supports their current needs. We know this last year has been difficult, if you or a loved one is struggling with the loss of smell this kit is for you!
How it Works:
It’s simple, easy, and most importantly free! You begin training your nasal passages by sniffing the same odors, 4 scents, every day for about 15 to 20 seconds each, according to the Mayo Clinic. Research has shown that over time you may regain your sense of smell as the smell pathways begin to recover from exposure. For a limited time, the Cultural Center will be providing smell training kits with the necessary tools for you to do your own smell training, including 4 sweet-smelling essential oils and a carrying case for your oils, because we want to make sure you can take your scents with you on the go, info sheets, and more!

Registration will open on Friday, April 16th at 9 a.m. and those who register must be experiencing the post symptoms due to Covid-19.

Supplies are limited to 50 kits* | *1 kit per household

The kits will be available for pick-up on Thursday, April 22nd for those who registered in the FRCC lobby. Please go to the front desk and give your name, a staff member will be ready to give you your very own smell training kit. Please mark this date on your calendar.
