Experience history through live theatre and multimedia in Native Vision, a powerful Living Voices production exploring the Native American experience from government boarding schools through the service of Navajo Code Talkers during World War II.
The story follows Alice, a young Navajo woman who leaves her reservation to pursue a Western education and later becomes a Navy nurse, while her cousin serves in the Marines as a Navajo Code Talker. As their lives change, both work to preserve their culture and find balance between Navajo and Western traditions.
Recommended for grades 4 and up, Native Vision offers meaningful connections to U.S. History, World War II, Native American Studies, Civil Rights, Civics/Government, literature, theatre, and more. The production was developed in partnership with Chinle Unified School District and Navajo Nation community advisors.
