(links to audition sign-up and important forms at bottom of the email)
Four Rivers Cultural Center’s community theater program is building up our community through the performing arts. Join the excitement as we bring the first musical to our area that is open to adults of all ages in addition to high school students.
Synopsis:Footloose is the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont after his father abandons them. Upon arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with most of the town, including the Reverend Bomont. The Reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing, which Ren finds unbelievable. With the help of the Ariel (the Reverend’s daughter) and Willard (a country hick who becomes his best friend), Ren convinces the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and in the process helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all. What:
Each actor/actress auditioning needs to learn one of the excerpts from the show listed below. Choose the song closest to the character you are hoping to be cast as. If you have no preference, feel free to sing the song choice you are most comfortable with. Use the links below to gain access to the materials needed. Please do your best to have it memorized for your audition.
It’s a good idea to bring lots of water, a pen or pencil (for forms) and your music. Wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in just in case the directors ask you to dance.
What song should I sing?
Please have the assigned song prepared for your audition. It’s ok if it isn’t memorized, but it helps the directors know your memorization skills if you are, which is always a factor when casting a show.
Most importantly, just try to have fun! Musical theatre involves lots of storytelling, so act out your song.
Will I sing the entire song?
Yes, each song has already been cut down to roughly 1 minute. We can tell what we need to know pretty quickly, so it’s important you have the entire clip prepared for your audition.
What format should my music be in?
We will provide the music for this audition, so you don’t have to worry about bringing anything other than your forms, and possibly your sheet music to practice with before your audition.
If I mess up, can I start over again?
Of course! If something goes wrong, just stop and ask to start over!
What will happen at auditions?
For this audition, we will work in small groups. As a group you will learn a dance combination, then you will sing individually and possibly read a short excerpt from the script. Once the director excuses your group, you’re done!
What do you look for at auditions?
We look for how prepared the individual is (memorized), how comfortable they are onstage and their volume/enunciation among other things. Truly, the best thing you can do onstage while auditioning is have fun! We know auditions can be extremely stressful and we take that into consideration. Tell yourself that when in doubt, take a deep breath and smile big:) Offstage, we look for individuals who are respectful to others auditioning and can listen silently, be supportive to fellow cast members and follow direction.
Can I stay and watch auditions/rehearsals?
For this audition, no. We will be holding a closed session to provide the time and ability to focus on each small group. All of our rehearsals are open, however, as we love meeting parents and family!
Are roles pre-cast?
No. We love getting new faces at 4RCT and reserve all casting until after auditions. We cast based on auditions, not past experience/affiliation with 4RCT.
