Mexican Independence Day 2016

Celebracion de la Indepedencia de Mexico TO OCCUR AT FOUR RIVERS CULTURAL CENTER ON

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

El Grito every 16th of September is the Mexican Fiesta par excellence! On this day Mexicans all over the world celebrate Mexico’s independence from Spanish rule.

As you know, indigenous peoples were the first to inhabit what is now known as Mexico. They created great civilizations such as the Olmec, the TeotihuacanMayaToltec, and of course the most powerful of all, the Aztec Empire.

Please join us for our fourth annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration on Sunday, September 18 from 2:00 – 5:30 PM.  Admission is free.  From 2:00 – 4:00 we will have arts and crafts, face painting, piñatas, Lotteria and other programs for the whole family to take part in.  From 4:00 – 5:30 we will have performances in the theatre – Mariachi bands, Folkloric dancers and local singers and musicians and the Mexican Consulate from Boise will provide a traditional presentation about Independence Day.

From 2:00 to 4:00 many organizations will be here to provide information and consult with attendees about health insurance, fair housing, education issues, immigration issues, family assistance and more.  In attendance will be St. Alphonsus Medical Center, Community In Action, Four Rivers Community School,Department of Human Services, CASA (Community And Shelter Assistance Corporation , OCDC, OHDC, the 8C school district’s migrant program and the Mexican Consulate from Boise.  Also in attendance will be Malheur County Child Development Center (MCCDC), Child Welfare, Project Dove, Lifeways, Nyssa Chamber of Commerce, Oregon Rural Action, Catholic Charities, Project Dove, and others.  All of these organizations provide services to our local Hispanic population.

Food vendors will be on hand to provide great Mexican entrees. Come join us for a fun family day at Four Rivers Cultural Center. We hope to make this event a welcome and anticipated yearly event for all to enjoy.
