Oregon Folklife: Community Conversation with James Dionne

Thursday, July 20th, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Four Rivers Cultural Center- Join James Dionne and Folklorist Josh Chrysler for a closer look at one of the many living cultural traditions of the Four Rivers region.

Chippewa and Cree, James Dionne practices many Native traditions, including leading sweat lodges and traditional powwow dancing. A sweat lodge is a place of spiritual refuge and mental and physical healing. “[In our sweat lodges] we honor the Creator; we honor the people in the circle,” James offered. Join us as James shares knowledge, stories, and memories of his experiences with these traditions. This will be an open conversation so bring your questions! This program is made possible by the Four Rivers Cultural Center, the Oregon Folklife Network, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

This is the first of many programs that resident folklorist,  Joshua Chrysler, will execute.  Joshua will spend 40 days in Ontario in 2017 and 2018 for Four Rivers Cultural Center.  The Four Rivers Cultural Center received a two-year grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to fund this program.
