The Grace family (parents & 3 children) made their way to Malheur County and settled here in 1903. A few family members were here, and some followed their path, however none of them are still working their original properties except Hal and Kelly Grace. The two of them are leading their family into the future and deep into local history. Multiple generations have made it work over 121 years on their property, passing down the stories and history through the original house and land. Join us in celebrating this amazing family accomplishment and see how we can help them secure a Sesquicentennial Award (150 years) in 29 years.
What is a Century Farm? As of 1958, a recognition program honoring farmers and ranchers. To qualify in Oregon, a family must have owned and farmed the same land continuously for a hundred years or more, and the farm size had to be a minimum of three acres that produced agricultural products worth at least $150. (1) Today the Oregon Farm Bureau heads this statewide program. The lengthy application must be submitted with deeds, documents, pictures, and other proofs of ownership and working the land.
The Grace Family is the 6th Century Farm & Ranch recognized in Malheur County, with less than 0.5% of the statewide honors bestowed here. The last Malheur County award was 22 years ago, in 2002. Locally we’ve all felt the recent community changes and corporate land scoops, making this honorable achievement even more impactful. This family has been driven and dedicated throughout generations, passing down successes, failures, and a love for their family and the property that we’re celebrating today.
