Abuelita’s Kitchen features 10 indigenous, mestiza, Mexican American, Afro Mexican grandmothers who has cooked, preserved, and passed on Mexican food cultures. Experience these Southern California stories through photos, text, artifacts, and recipes. The variety of ingredients, places, and cultures that these abuelas and recipes represent are vastly scattered throughout Mexico. You’ll see molcajetes, a comal, a tortilla press and more with this exhibit.
Bring your family, recipes, and memories of your grandmother(s) to share. Did you get to help your abuela prepare meals? What was her favorite recipe? What’s your favorite and why? What’s your favorite memory in the kitchen? Keep conversations and memories flowing by enjoying this exhibition with your family.
